This just in from the WedSocial fashion team!

The most popular wedding dress shapes are:

 1. A-Line. An A-line wedding dress suits most body types and therefore it is one of the most popular.

2. Princess Line. This is the same general shape as and A-line but without a seam at the waist and so it gives a long unbroken line that is very flattering to most figures. The skirt begins to flare just below the bride's natural waist.

3. Empire Line. Just think Jane Austen! This is a romantic style  with a seam just under the bust line and a long straight-ish skirt. This gives the illusion of height and so therefore it is good for shorter brides.

4. Full Skirt. This is the classic fairytale bride look and one that our 9 year old daughters would definitely approve of! This can look amazing but it doesn't suit everyone and probably looks better on the younger bride....

Body Types

Hourglass figures... look good in a strapless dress and a low neckline can be flattering as long as it is decent. It is best to avoid gathers or pleats in the skirt and bias cuts are a disaster.

Pearshaped figures.... a deatiled bodice can draw away from broader hips and a fuller skirt like an A-line or princess style is flattering. Again, it is best to avoid a bias cut.

Petite figures..... it is best to keep away from anything to big or fussy as it could swamp the smaller frame. A shorter dress such as a tea dress can look fantastic as can empire line as it gives an illusion of height.

Boyish figure....Bias cuts do work well on this body type and a full skirted wedding dress such a the princess line or full skirt can give an illusion of a weel defined waist. A lot of attention on the bust is good too, making it look fuller

'Trash the Dress' is the latest wedding photography import from America. It involves organising a photoshoot some time after the wedding where the bride will wear her dress in an environment which is completely out of place, even hostile. Beach shots are very popular and also city streets, rooftops, fields, forests, abandoned buildings and rubbish dumps. The bride wears her wedding dress in these surroundings and ruins it in the process by getting it wet, dirty or even burning or tearing it. The idea is to reflect the personality of the bride without showing much respect for the dress. It is almost a declaration that the wedding is done and the dress will not be used again. It is seen as an alternative to storing the dress away, never to be seen again.

If you know of anyone who has done trashed their dress or you are a photographer who has photographed this, we would love to hear from you and see your pictures.
