Trash the Dress, Fearless Bridal, Rock the Frock.....

'Trash the Dress' is the latest wedding photography import from America. It involves organising a photoshoot some time after the wedding where the bride will wear her dress in an environment which is completely out of place, even hostile. Beach shots are very popular and also city streets, rooftops, fields, forests, abandoned buildings and rubbish dumps. The bride wears her wedding dress in these surroundings and ruins it in the process by getting it wet, dirty or even burning or tearing it. The idea is to reflect the personality of the bride without showing much respect for the dress. It is almost a declaration that the wedding is done and the dress will not be used again. It is seen as an alternative to storing the dress away, never to be seen again.

If you know of anyone who has done trashed their dress or you are a photographer who has photographed this, we would love to hear from you and see your pictures.

I have photographed 2 'trash the dress' days & both were great fun. For the first the bride Vanessa wanted to go to the beach for her photos and we travelled to Brean Sands for the day, I had her rolling in the sand, splashing through rock pools and climbing the rocks (not too high!) & got some fabulous photos, & as an added bonus she had her dress dry cleaned and it was as good as new! The second shoot was for a bride who has a huge passion for horses, the photoshoot was of her in her wedding dress with her horse creating some unique photos which she has had framed.

Trash The Dress
I have found that the UK brides are really reluctant to actually Trash their dress in the same way that the USA brides will.
We do "Love The Dress" sessions... a chance to have a change of hair and make up, and get some fashion inspired funky shots, perhaps a liitle racier than the innocence of the wedding day. Still gives the bride a chance to get her frock back on, without worrying whether her Vera Wang will get destroyed.!
